Viva Las Vegas

This week the whole gang will be heading to Las Vegas to watch the Mini Moto SX, Vegas SX, and catch up with some of our different customers and athletes that will be out at the event. The Universal Pit Bike Team is pretty strong and we are looking to take home a bunch of titles. Top riders include Derek Costella, Jason Ellis, Jena Ellis, Kyle Engle, Drew Petrie, and Matt Buyten. At the Vegas SX we will be represented as always by Red Bull KTM. A few of us will also be enjoying some of the poolside festivities as well and promise to keep it classy.

MXJarno close to podium in Heerde

UMX Suzuki rider Jarno Verhorevoort had a decent race in Heerde this past weekend. Jarno qualified in 4th in time practice and felt good on his Pol Suzuki. In the first moto Jarno left the first turn in third. He moved up to second but in the second half of the race he dropped back to 4th. Then he charged hard to grab 3rd place at the end of the race. In heat two Jarno had a crash with another rider on the first lap. He dropped back from 7th to 15th. Once on the bike Jarno passed enough riders to finish 7th. The 3-7 heat scores gave Jarno a 4th place total for the day.

Next race: Round three of the Open Belgian Outdoor Championships

Moments of Greatness! Alessi weekly.

The Detroit SX performance of Mike & Jeff Alessi concluded the East coast SX lites season. The hint of greatness came when Mike Alessi holeshot heat race #1 and dissapeared. Simple as that! Mike won the heat with a nearly 10 second lead over the likes of Dungey, Hahn, and Laninovich, by turning the fastest Lites time of the entire program (practice, heat races, main event) which was a speedy 47.76. Mike had the fast qualifier by a margin of 3 seconds, and had first pick of the gate, but in the main event Mike crashed out in the first turn, then charged from last to 8th, Jeff was also riding inside the top ten for most of the race but also crashed out with less then 2 laps to go to finish 18th.
With our 450 Outdoor program gearing up, it's very difficult to continue switching back and forth between 250f supercross and 450 outdoor riding, hence we have asked to ride the final supercross of the season (Las Vegas) on a 450 so we don't have to switch bikes again ... we are requesting AMA approval.

Custom Chopper builders use Universal MX parts

Custom Chopper builders have discovered Universal MX parts for their rides.

This is a photo of Paul de Jong's H-D XL 1000 that features Universal MX Solex bars (upside down in this case), Universal MX Radius Top and Bottom clamps and Universal clutch. If only we made seats....

Unfortunately Paul won't be able to make this weekend's El Diablo Run but you can find some of our UMX crew there.

IMBA Belgium

UMX rider Erwin Robins raced an IMBA race last weekend over in Belgium. These events have three motos. Erwin placed 13th in heat one after a little crash that dropped him back from 6th. In Moto 2 he had a bad start (23rd) but came back to 11th. In the last heat Erwin almost got the holeshot. He banged bars with the other rider and dropped back to almost 10th place. Robins fought back to 6th in the last heat of this international race.

FAB on TV

Kabel 1, a Germany TV channel, followed UMX rider Fabian "FAB" Bauersachs during the IFMXF World Cup in Graz, Austria. The filming for show one took place during set-up, warm-up and practice. This will go live on 19 April next on Kabel 1 at 16:30pm. One day later at exactly the same time Fabian's contest runs and after party will be shown on TV. Tune in if you can.

Alessi's finish 1 -2 at REM

It was a good day at REM, both Mike and Jeff rode on top form today to post a 1-2 finish in the combined pro class aboard their electric start Red Bull KTM 450s today at REM racing at Glen Helen Cycle Park. Mike Alessi was on form today with a pair of holeshots and two moto wins. Jeff lead briefly in moto 2 of the combined pro class. Jeff was 2-2 on the day!

Check their bike stand next time you see them in the pits.

Jarno puts Universal MX on the podium

After the change from Honda to Suzuki Jarno Verhorevoort has been looking for the right settings of his RMZ-450. With track conditions changing it's an ongoing battle. Last weekend was the hottest April day in Dutch history. It suited Jarno well has he piloted his yellow ride to a third place in heat one and came back from behind to finish 4th in moto two at the race in Isidorushoeve. These results gave him the third place MX1 podium spot. Always good to stand up there.

Next race: Heerde, NL.

Robins on podium at MX3 National Championship race

With the MX1 Outdoor MON nationals and IMBA races being the main priority, Erwin Robins races any race he can. The MX3 race in Zeeland was a race that counted for the National Championships and the Yamaha rider decided to enter that one. Because he had not raced any previous MX3 championship races this season he didn't have the best gate pick out there but Erwin managed to ride through the pack to finish 5th in heat one and 2nd in heat two to finish on the podium (3rd) at the end of the day.

I think I’m turning Taiwanese… I really think so!

Product Engineer Erik and I recently returned from Taiwan where we got to visit our factories, sample some of the local cousine, and view the beautiful countryside… a lot. Here is a break down of the goings on.

Factories: The International Headquarters and home of the factory where most our products are designed and produced is located in Taichung, Taiwan. This was the first time I have visited the factory and it truly was impressive and pretty cool to see everything getting produced. On one side of the facility there were stock piles of stand components and on the other end there were sweet little Taiwanese ladies bagging and placing bar pads on our bars. Everyone at Kinesis Taiwan was extremely friendly and almost over accommodating. By the end of the trip there were handing us bags of different little treats that Erik and I would probably never use.

Cousine: Everything seemed pretty edible and we did stay away from as much poultry as possible(Bird Flu). But… I found out that everything was not as edible as I had imagined by my last authentic meal. I was eating what seemed to be Miso Soup and it tasted pretty good. I was half way through my bowl and realized that what I thought were noodles was actually little 2” long fish or something else that survives in the water. What mad it worse was that the soup was like 150 degrees when they brought it out and I came to the conclusion that the poor little fishies were cooked as the sat on the table in front of me. Ewwwwwwwwww!!!!!

Countryside: I was just joking about the beautiful part. Unfortunately Taiwan is not as fortunate as the good old U S of A and everything is packed together and a bit run down. Rice patties, factories, and high rises dominate the tiny island. However, we did spend at least 10 hours of our time there driving from factory to factory in search of new vendors, so I did get plenty of time to see why I should be more grateful to be an American.

Until the next adventure,

Mike D.

One moto each for the Alessi brothers

Last weekend the Alessi's celebrated Easter weekend racing REM MX at Glen Helen and visiting "pops rock" in Lucerne Valley...
Mike was the winner of the 450 pro class in moto one with a 23 second lead, and Jeff was the winner of moto two, so both boys broke in their 450 outdoor program with wins this week (Mike had a rear flat in moto 2 and changed it in a quick pits stop to get 4th). Jeff won the race with a 2-1 finish.

The Alessi's will be back racing REM next Saturday.

Jarno has been racing a lot

While the weather is getting better the racing is more fun. Jarno Verhorevoort grabs every opportunity to hit the track whether there's a race in Belgium or The Netherlands. The race in Wuustwezel, Belgium didn't go as planned. Crashes in the first two heats meant end of race and a DNF for Jarno. In the third heat of the international MX race Jarno finished 25th.

At the National race in Mill on 7 April Jarno just missed the podium after finishing 4th in both motos.

Next Race: 15 April in St. Isodorushoeve

Victory for Erwin Robins

Erwin Robins is starting to get the feel of his new bike and equipment. This resulted in a win last weekend at the MON race in Well, The Netherlands. The UMX rider had to fight hard for the victory as he could only grab the lead in the last lap of each moto to secure the win.

In heat number one he left the first turn in third and put pressure on the leader who crashed in the last lap. Erwin passed him right there and got his first win of the day. In heat two the 2-stroke YZ rider grabbed the holeshot but crashed a little later to drop back to 6th. Riders were passed one by one. Again the leader crashed under Erwin's pressure when he got to second place and this resulted in a present for Erwin; another win.

Busty Wolter update....staying busy...

The last two weekends have been the most intense Night of the Jumps weekends ever. On the first weekend of April it was time for the event in my hometown Berlin. I was very motivated and rode well in my qualifier on the first day until I stalled my bike. I started it real quick again but when I was on the approach to the ramp my time was over. So I did my Double-Up trick and already new that I missed one jump. This kicked me out of the finals, I was frustrated. Afterwards I got told I could have done my jump when I saw that the time was out since I was already on the approach. I am too german I guess... HAHA! So I was super motivated for the next day.

Everything went well in the qualifier, I even did one more jump than I had to do to make up for my mistake from the first day. In the finals I stuck my frist ever Nacnac Backflip to dirt and finished in 6th place. That was all I could do, because the level was very, very high. Everybody who thought Berlin was sick was proven wrong only one week later in Graz at the second IFMXF Worldchampionships contest. Some riders stepped it up even more compared to Berlin!

The track was very cool. Finally we did not have to ride in a circle, had 3 big landings and a very innovative Step-Up to Step-Down jump that send us about 15 meters above the flat ground! Another cool thing was that we had a full day of practice before the event started, because on easter sunday we had a show in the afternoon and the contest in the night. The level in the contest was even raised compared to Berlin. Fredd Johansson learned Indyflips during the week, Romain Izzo showed his first Seatgrab backflip and guys aas Ailo Gaup get stronger and stronger after their injuries.

I rode pretty good and was happy with my riding, but ended up in 8th position. But I was only 10 points behind Remi Bizouard, that is not that much. And even Remi didn‘t make it to the finals! I did not know what more I could do for the next day. I guess I have to go out and learn some gnarlier flipcombos... I did pretty much the same run and ended up in 7th position, only 4 points behind Mat Rebeaud. But honestly I would have been in 9th place. The judging on sunday send out the impression that all they wanna see is flips. So as a protest, I guess, Mike Mason did a flip-free run on monday. Thanks, buddy, for showing that there is still big-name guys out there who have the right spirit and do FMX for the right reasons! Speaking of the right soul: Adam Jones did a whole goonride run after messing up his first trick. You are in the club, too, Adam! I still get tears in my eyes from laughing when I think about this run...
So these two boys would have been in front of me. Remi Bizouard stepped it really up on the second day by pulling his first ever 360 attempt to dirt in the finals. He came really close and just slid out a little bit in the landing. Remi gets the „biggest balls award“ from me for this weekend!

In two weeks I will have a weeklong show at the BAUMA in Munich, after that I will be on a two-week roadtrip with Fuel TV from the USA for their Euro-Episode. YEAH!

See you!

Busty

Happy B-day to Jeff Alessi

Congrats to Jeff Alessi. He turned 18 on March 28th. With a bit of luck he got to spend his birthday at home with girlfriend, family and friends during the hectic supercoss race schedule.

Congrats from everyone at Universal MX.

Robins makes podium in Berghem

At the MON race in Berghem Erwin Robins got Universal MX on the podium. After pulling start position ticket number 38 (second row) Erwin had to make it through the complete field to finish third in moto one.

The start in heat two was a lot better as he left the first turn in 5th position. He moved his way up to the front of the race and just when he saw the leaders of the race Erwin crashed and moved back to 6th. In the time that was left he raced back to 3rd but it was too late to battte with the leaders this time. 3 + 3 = 3rd place. Next race: IMBA - Switzerland.

MXJARNO - Berghem

It was a tough day for Jarno Verhorevoort at the MON race in Berghem. The start in the first heat was okay when Jarno left the first turn in 6th. He moved up to 3rd place where he had to battle with Anton van de Wetering. This resulted in some pumped up arms so he had to let go to finish 6th.

The start of moto 2 wasn't very good and Jarno started the race around 20th position. He moved up to 3rd real quick but had to let go the pace at the end to finish 5th for fifth place overall.

Indy Alessi update

This week we traveled to the mid west, to the state of Indiana, for the Indianapolis supercross. This event is held at the RCA dome right in down town Indianapolis, its a busy place for sure!
Mike recorded a 6th this weekend, and wasn't on pace with the leaders, while Jeff had a mishap in the heat race while running 4th, then crashed out the heat race while leading.

Mike is currently 5th in the series points while Jef's bad weekend has caused him to slip to 11th.
