Busty's Atze FMX Jam, Berlin, Germany

Last Saturday the first ATZE FMX JAM ended with success. Busty Wolter invited his buddies to have a week of fun and present finest FMX. From Tuesday to Thursday the boys had easygoing jams in the Upforce Ostbande FMX Park near Berlin / Germany. The Upforce riders were joined by Swedens Fredd Johansson, currently in 3rd position of the FMX world championships, and some amateur riders.

Besides the daily riding sessions the lifestyle was a big aspect in the whole jam concept. So the whole crew went wakeboarding, visited the Berlin concert of punkrock icons Pennywise, did a sightseeing tour on a boat through historic Berlin or grabbed some nice food at the punkrock italian restaurant „Due Forni“.
On Saturday after practice the Big Air Session started with a 33 meters big jump. Not all riders wanted to join the session in sight of this big jump, but in the end Fredd Johansson, Stefan Bengs and Busty Wolter even did tight trains over that monster-jump. After all was said and done the riders voted for Busty as winner of this session.
After the warm-up for the FMX Park Session unfortunately it started to rain and jumping was not possible. But when the rain had stopped Busty tried to make the best out of it and scraped the mud on top away with a bulldozer. The riders decided not to do a contest because of the risky conditions, but ended up jumping a 20 minute jam-session for the 3000 spectators. As final session of the day the King of Foam was on schedule. The crowd voted for the most spectacular trick the riders would show on minibikes, BMX and MTB. Stefan Bengs beat a nohanded frontflip attempt by Jim and his BMX, a 360 tailwhip try by Dominik on his MTB, as well as Freddy Peters’ Heelclicker Backflip on the minibike by attempting two doubleflips on his minibike.
The aftershowparty in the Silverwings’ Uncle Sallys party will be unforgotten by the riders and was the perfect finish for a cool week.

Alessi parks his 2007 KTM on monocoque stand

It was a weekend off for Mike Alessi, but not really. Mike and the KTM crew used the weekend to set up his 2007 KTM 250 that he's going to start riding next weekend at Steel City. Mike also rode a local race in Glen Helen on a stock 2007 KTM 450 and claims it's the fastest bike he's ever raced, even with the stock pipe. Keep an eye out for Mike in the races to come and check that Universal monocoque stand he parks his new machine on.

Robins remains 6th in European IMBA championships

The last two weekends were IMBA weekends for Erwin Robins. The Dutch YZ rider scored decent in Germany as well as England and remains in sixth position in the European IMBA series. With the Dutch IMBA race coming up in Heerde (in 2 weeks) we are expecting Erwin to step it up in the Dutch sand as that's his specialty.

Mike Alessi loses points lead

It was a bad day at Broome Tioga for Mike Alessi. After pulling the holeshot in first moto, Mike went down hard and broke the clutch perch,...hence was unable to restart the race causing a dnf (did not finish) in moto 1. The second moto Mike had 40th gate pick, started about 12th, and worked up to 4th place. Due to this finish Mike lost the points lead in the AMA Lites Class and is now trailing Villopoto by 20 points. Mike is in second currently and leads Andrew Short who is in third by 12 points. Next race at Steel City Mike will be racing the 2007 KTM SX 250.

Universal offices in Berlin(?)

Last weekend we were in Berlin for the Rebel Jam. They organized a Berlin City Tour for the media and riders which was great fun.

We got to see the sights of Berlin while getting wasted on a convertible double decker bus. With our German distributor based in Berlin we kept our eyes open and couldn't believe the huge Universal sign they had going on their ten story building. Thanks TNT Offroad GmbH!

Chances are building wasn't theirs. Thanks for the advert though.

Universal MX raising the bar on Vital MX

There's a new Motocross website on the internet. It's not just a small player either. Basically it's some of the ex-staff of Transworld Motocross who started a new venture. Guy-B will be the main man at VitalMX.com. He used to run www.transworldmotocross.com and did an awesome job there. We've decided to support the guys as you can see in the screen shot on the right.

Pay them a visit at: www.vitalmx.com

Sag die Wahrheit - tell the Truth TV show with Fabian Bauersachs

Okay, he might not have a tattoo in his neck, ear rings in both ears and a shaved head. Maybe that's why it was hard for the TV Panel to determine who the real Freestyle Motocross rider was on a recent national TV show.

Universal fMX rider Fabian Bauersachs (pictured in the middle) had a new experience working with a professional TV crew. Make-up, no swearing, limited sponsor placement, the whole nine yards.

Lonely KTM ranger holds on to points lead

After a mud race and a podium at Millville (4 - 2), Mike Alessi is still holding on to the AMA points lead in the Lites class. After the race this is what Mike had to say:

“I’m the only guy on the team right now. It’s kind of demoralizing because Pro Circuit has all these riders and all this help. It doesn’t really seem fair because they have so many riders on their team; they can just have those guys help out, and I’m just out there all by myself. It’s definitely a little demoralizing racing against a team that has all this help, and I’m just out there by myself. I guess that’s just the way it is.”

GP of Namur, Belgium.

The GP of Namur is a classic event. The Grand Prix is held on a very unique location up on the Citadel that overlooks the city of Namur. If you come here during the rest of the year you won't find a track, simply because it's not there. Just for the occasion a track is designed and takes you through the park, up and down steep hills and the big parking lot that is in front of the Esplanade. One part of the track is a street that is filled with 4 feet of dirt. That section also had a bar where Hakan Carlqvist (grounder of our Swedish Carla Pro shop distributor) grabbed a beer on his way to a GP victory. This bar is now closed. If you want to know how rough the track is, ask Randy "Sully" Sullivan, he had sore muscles for two weeks after walking only one lap, that has ropes to help you get up some of the steep hills. Stefan Everts won his 99th GP this weekend and even better, he became ten-time world champion. Respect where respect is due.

MX 1 World championship standings:

1 Everts, Stefan BEL 592
2 Strijbos, K. BEL 424
3 Ramon, Steve BEL 408
4 de Dycker, Ken BEL 372
5 Leok, Tanel EST 365

Gold for Universal MX's Matt Buyten

X GAMES, Los Angeles — Matt Buyten soared above the competition — by two feet, to be exact — and won X Games gold in the Moto X Step-Up finals on Sunday at The Home Depot Center. Buyten cleared 23 feet in the competition, enough to edge out Brian Deegan and Jeremy McGrath, who both cleared 21 feet.

"I just went into that thing as hot as possible and held it wide,"
said Buyten following his victory. "I really look up to (McGrath). To sit here and battle with him is a dream come true."

Name Hometown Height (ft)
1. Matt Buyten Carson City, Nev. 23.00
2. Brian Deegan Temecula, Calif. 21.00
2. Jeremy McGrath Encinitas, Calif. 21.00
4. Myles Richmond Cherry Valley, Calif. 19.00
4. Tommy Clowers Ramona, Calif. 19.00

UMX sponsored Michael Sleeter

As seen on TWMX.com: KTM rider Michael Sleeter got to pit out of the Red Bull KTM factory semi this weekend. As a long time test rider for KTM, Sleeter helped develop the new 2007 KTMs, and has signed a deal that will see him racing the new KTM450SX-F in Supercross during the '07 season. Sleeter will be developing the bike for the team, and will probably be pitting out of a box van right next to the factory team pits.

Mike Alessi back in leader position

KTM/Red Bull factory rider Mike Alessi scored another podium in Washougal (3 - 3) to grab back the AMA Lites championship series. Consistency is key as Mike has posted 5 heat wins and has an average of almost 20 points per moto this season. We're glad he's back on top and wish him all the best for the upcoming races.

Standings:
1. Mike Alessi: 315 points
2. Ryan Villopoto: 312 points
3. Andrew Short: 280 points
