Universal riders on Gemert podium

Last weekend in Gemert Erwin Robins had a tough fight on the track with William Saris who made a short comeback to the MON federation. Robins finished 2nd behind fellow YZ rider Saris in heat one who had taken off while Erwin was coming back from place 5. Heat number two saw a one-to-one fight in the front with Saris and Robins. They passed each other several times but it was Erwin who won heat two giving him the overall win over Saris and UMX/Paul's Boutique supported YZ rider Christian Mandigers in third. That makes two Universal riders on the podium in Gemert. Nice one! On Sunday 2 July Erwin scored another 1-1 victory. This time in Berghem. Sweet.

On Any Sunday MX sessions

Even though Universal MX has been around for a couple of years we can still use any promotion we get. We've got track banners, decal sheets and van stickers that help spread the word in the MX world. If that's not enough we can send you the Universal logo so you can do your own thing. This 1972 Ford Econoline of our Dutch distributor is a nice example. It sure turns some heads when the door opens and Mert Lawwill steps out.

Jarno Verhorevoort on podium in Lochem, NL.

With his next Grand Prix race coming up in two weeks in Markelo, Jarno Verhorevoort is preparing as good as he can for this big MX3 race. Last weekend in Lochem Jarno got the holeshot in heat one and finished 2nd after changing positions several times. Heat 2 saw the JH rider finish in 3rd which was good enough for 2nd overall. Congrats Jarno and good luck at the GP.

Two-tone anodized bars

It has been hard keeping the Universal two-tone bars in stock but we've made another attempt. If your dealer does not currently stock them, tell the boss to get in touch with his Universal sales person to order up some. All bars come with a stylish Universal bar pad and we've got plenty of popular bends to choose from.

Erwin Robins back at 1 - 1 finish

Universal MX rider Erwin Robins showed that he still has it. Last weekend in Horst he won both motos in the MX2 Inters class putting UMX on the podium once again. Erwin's next race will be another round of the Dutch MON Championship series in Neerijnen this upcoming weekend. Let's see if he can hold on to the lead.

Another weekend, another AMA Toyota Motocross National. This time the MX crew went to Budds Creek where KTM riders Nate Ramsey scored 7th overall and Mike Alessi had some bad luck and got 8th. Mike still holds on to the championship lead which looks like this:

250F Standings after Budds Creek
1. Mike Alessi 153
2. Ryan Villopoto 146
3. Andrew Short 135
4. Joshua Grant 135
5. Brett Metcalfe 13
6. Andrew McFarlane 121
7. Nathan Ramsey 88

3rd place in the sand for Mike Alessi

After hyping up Mike Alessi's training leading up to the sand race in Southwick we forgot to mention how the KTM factory rider did. A second place in the first heat and a third plac in moto 2 had Mikey step on the podium as the third overall rider in the MX2 class. The 1-4 score of Andrew Short gave him the win and the 3-2 finishes of Metcalfe gave the Aussi 2nd.

Check Racer-X's Fan of the week

Okay, we've told you before and we'll tell you again. Make sure to check out the Universal MX Fan of the Week on www.racerxill.com. If you don't, you don't know what you're missing. You almost skipped this Yamaha girl on the left that Cudby shot for the weekly Racer-X feature. That's right, there's a new MX Fan up on the website already.

Erwin Robins rides his YZ to 6th in Italy

Erwin Robins participated in his first IMBA race of the season over in Asti, Italy. The race had three motos and after bad starts and a few crashes in the first two heats, the UMX rider ended up in 6th place overall in the international field. Erwin is strongly leading the Dutch MON MX1 class and hopes to celebrate that title at the end of the year.

They may be small, but they sure are fun.

There was never any doubt in the office that at some point we would have some pitbikes here to tear up the local ride spots when the weather was nice (and since there is 300+ days/yr in SoCal of sun... it gives a lot of options). Well, the bikes are complete and look good enough to be easily confused with a factory race team, but will be used to generally just have some serious fun when we can get away from work for a couple hours and put in a couple motos. Both are variations of 88cc, with Sano Ultra LT6 forks and chromoly frames with a variety of components for remainder of the bikes. Since these photos were taken, both bikes are receiving clutch upgrades with help from Horstman to help make them a little more competitive at DelMar, now we just need to learn how to ride them. The bikes are definitely pretty trick and they run pretty damn good... for a little bike.

Michael Cleveland gives us some love

Mirraco/Snafu sponsored BMX pro Michael Cleveland got second place in Pro Park at the Crazy Freakin' Bikers contest in Oklahoma, OK last weekend.

We found this photo of Michael on BMX Plus!'s website sporting a Universal Motocross hoodie and were stoked on the cross promotion from one of the better BMX guys out there. Look out for Mike at the major BMX events this summer.

800 Mikey rides more sand

The Alessi family has been visiting New York this week in the off time leading up to the next National at Southwick. It wasn't only visiting Seventeen magazine, Central Park, the Atlantic Ocean and the Statue of Liberty though. Mike found a sand track in preparation for the next round.

Welcome racefans!

The folks at Racer-X keep on posting dope girls in the weekly Universal Motocross fan of the week section on their website. Make sure to check it out every week. That's where you need to go to find an enlargement of this weeks' photo too. www.racerxill.com

Universal HD parts?

No, don't worry, we're not getting into manufacturing Harley Davidson parts. We leave that up to our colleagues at biltwellinc.com. This is a one of a kind sandblasted filter-cover that can be found on Paul de Jong's Harley XL 1000. Sweet.

Mike Alessi gets ready for Southwick sand

The upcoming weekend Mike Alessi will be entering the next round of the outdoor nationals at "The Wick". For American standards this track is sandy and Mike got to practice on it last weekend getting second behind Metcalfe and winning a 250cc moto too. They were riding the track backwards. Good luck to Mike and all the UMX riders at Southwick this weekend.
