Mechanical in the last lap keeps Jarno off ONK podium

In a mechanical sport the race isn't over until it's over. Jarno Verhorevoort found out as he was on his way to a fourth place in Moto 1 between a bunch of Grand Prix internationals at the Open Dutch Championships in Heerde. Jarno's clutch gave up with half a lap to go which cost him the 4th place. It was time for revenge in moto two. Jarno showed that he is in top shape with his 5th place. Jarno: "Too bad about the mechanical in the first race otherwise I would have been on the podium today. Still, I can say that this was the best ONK race of my MX career."

The Crooks

UMX distributor for The Netherlands, Paul's Boutique, is sponsoring a rock band called The Crooks. In fact, the lead singer of the band is Paul's cousin Thomas. They started the band a couple of years ago and had their first performance at Paul's Boutique's 10 year anniversary party. Now they've been winning every talent show they've entered and have collected 6 days of free studio time! Thomas showed up in the newspaper wearing a Universal MX T-shirt after winning yet another contest. Sweet.

Mike Alessi going 1 - 8 at Hi-Point. Keeps championship lead.

Hi-Point hosted the second race of the outdoor nationals and after a 1-1 score at Hangtown, Mike Alessi held on to the championship lead after round 2. Moto one went perfect winning the Racer-X Holeshot award ($500 bucks in the pocket) but at the start of moto two Mike crashed and had to come back from last. He passed many riders on the short track but got stuck at place 8, good for third overall. With the Southwick sand race coming up in 2 weeks as the next round, Mike holds on to an 8 point lead in the series.

Motocross Lites Point Standings

1. Mike Alessi, Victorville, Calif., KTM, 88
2. Ryan Villopoto, Poulsbo, Wash., Kawasaki, 80
3. Joshua Grant, Riverside, Calif., Honda, 74

MX Jarno gets 9th at the Dutch MX3 Grand Prix

After barely qualifying for the MX3 Grand Prix in Germany on Sunday, things were looking better for Jarno Verhorevoort on Ascension Day. During time qualifying on Wednesday, Jarno clocked the 15th fastest time which was very promising for next day's race. In moto one Jarno started around place 20 and had to get rid of his goggles on lap three. He still managed to score a 13th place. Heat two was even better. His 11th place finish scored him a total of 18 GP points and 9th for the day.

Comfortable win for Robins

UMX rider Erwin Robins scored a 1 - 1 in Stevensbeek last weekend on his YZ 250 two-stroke. If you keep that handle open, it's possible to beat the 4-strokes, as Erwin proved at the MON race. This weekend Erwin will ride an international IMBA race in Venray, NL. Jarno Verhorevoort gained some experience by racing the MX3 GP in Germany. With the MX3 GP of The Netherlands coming up this Thursday we will see if Jarno can use the knowledge to score better than a 34th in moto two. Hey, at least we´ve got Universal bars on the gate at a Grand Prix. Good luck to both Jarno and Erwin this weekend.

The first round of the AMA Outdoor Nationals took place over the weekend in Hangtown. The KTM factory team bikes were all parked on Universal's Orange monocoque stands and were looking sweet. After signing a new 3 year contract with the KTM squad, Mike Alessi gave them something to cheer about, a 1 - 1 score for the MX2 victory.

Universal supports Deegans bike for outdoor season

In the constant effort to improve ourselves, we have decided to make the best motocross stand on the market even better... at least for Brian Deegan. We felt that he needed to be represented properly for his return to MX during the outdoor season and the number plates on his Universal Monocoque stand should help him easily find where to park his bike after each moto. Keep an eye out for the black #173 and cheer him on as he races by... keep in mind that his tires will be below, rather than above him this time around.

Brian, good luck and have fun.

Jarno and Erwin met at the ONK

The MX 1 class at the Open Dutch Championships has a dozen GP riders participating. Universal riders Jarno Verhorevoort and Erwin Robins battled with these riders to score a 13-18 (Jarno) and a 17-15 (Erwin).
For Jarno the 2nd heat was a disaster as his bike still had to start when the field already had left the gate. His comeback to 18th (and points) was impressive. Jarno moved into 11th place in the standings.
It was Robins' first KNMV race of the season. After winning pretty much everything at the MON federation he saw his winning streak stopped in Halle.

OJA 112

Kristen Oja scored a 2nd at her first Women National at Glenn Helen, USA. This probably isn't newsworthy to you but check out that jersey! It still won't do much to you if you're not from Aarle-Rixtel. OJA is the local hang out place there that has got some history. 1-1-2 is the emergency number that you call when some serious shit goes down. OJA and 112 are a killer combination and Kristen can expect some fan mail from Dutch guys asking for a jersey after this post.

Fan of the week

For years Universal has been supporting the Racer-X website. We do this in the unusual way of showing a Fan of the week.

Most of the time it's some hot chick that hangs out at a supercross or outdoor motocross race. Most people are into it, some are not. Luckily everyone at Universal can appreciate true motocross fans, and that includes the hot ones.

Make sure to check in at www.racerxill.com once a week for a new (Universal) MX fan.

Robins: 1-1

Erwin Robins has put Universal on the podium once again. This time he doubled in the MX3 class at a race in Mill, The Netherlands. The Yamaha rider had a bad gate in heat one and started all the way in the back of the field but managed to pass everyone to finish first. His 5th place start in heat two was quickly changed with the lead making this another double. This upcoming weekend will be the big test for Erwin who has decided to take on a few ONK KNMV races where he will meet his old rivals and GP riders in the MX1 class.

Big crowd at MX Grand Prix in Germany

Bart de Jong, Universal MX's International dude, just returned from the Motocross Grand Prix in Teutschenthal, Germany and saw a big crowd enjoy some great racing. Christophe Pourcel won his first MX2 GP and the MX1 was no surprise as Stefan Everts grabbed that one. Enjoy the photo of Dutch fellow Marc de Reuver blasting through a turn on his way to 2nd place in the MX2 class.
